Alcantara is an Arabic word meaning bridge and the exhibition features landscapes and impressions of Wells, Somerset, Europe and the Arab world.

The exhibition of art is used as the basis of a book containing the paintings complemented by prose and poetry from writers in Somerset and the Levant region. The book can be enjoyed for its vibrant and thought-provoking art but will also challenge its readers to reflect on the cultural and historic bridges and western involvement in the Levant and the resulting implications and responsibilities. All royalties and proceeds from the book will be donated to three charities working with refugees and displaced people in the UK, Jordan and Palestine: Abide, Souriyat beyond borders and GapArt.

The project celebrates the universal languages of music and art and highlights the bridges that exist between the Levant, particularly Jordan, and Europe, with a focus on Britain.

The project is supported by Arts Council England.

The exhibition will be open daily from 10am – 4pm in the Exhibition Room of The Bishop's Palace. Entry to the exhibition is included in standard admission. Visitors are advised to check the website in case of closures for private events.
